Stress and how it affects you

This month is stress awareness month so I thought I would share some tips about how to cope with it.

What is stress?

“Stress is the feeling of being overwhelmed or unable to cope with mental or emotional pressure.” (Mental Health Foundation) Now I’m sure we have all experienced stress at some point in our life right, I mean its not something you can control and say stress stay away, so we have to have a way to cope with it. Stress comes in different forms e.g., outside stress like the kids, family, work etc or inside stress, you know the ones we put on ourselves, the pressure to do things and be perfect and be there for everyone. So how does stress effect you? Think about it for a moment…..

It takes a toll on our body, our mind, how we think and even how we behave, it can interfere with our sleeping pattern and also our eating, you just want to comfort eat. So, for me I know when I am stressed, I pretend I am fine until my body shuts down in some way and literally puts me down, in bed with a migraine. My skin then becomes extremely dry, and the patches reappear, as stress can intensify your current skin conditions. When we are stressed, we tend to slip back on our skincare regime, which doesn’t help

5 tips that have helped me through stressful times

Tip #1 - Mindfulness

Sometimes we need to stop and acknowledge the moment and how we feel and not just carry on knowing something is not right.

Tip #2 - Don't skip your skincare ritual

Carry on with your daily skincare routine, the last thing you need is to be starting over with your skincare regime, natural organic skincare products will help work with your skins natural balance.

Tip #3 - Body Scan:

Sit or lye down and scan your body from head to toe, taking note of how each part of your body feels and release the tension as you go along.

Tip #4 - Time Out!

Tip #5 - Talk to someone

Talk about it, either with a close friend or someone professional. What's the saying "A problem shared is a problem halved" Don't suffer in silence.
